Fun Sleep Facts

In the office, we love talking about all things sleep. We really do!

We have pulled together our top ten facts about sleep:

  1. We spend about a third of their lives asleep.
  2. Elephants can sleep while standing (as well as lying on the ground).
  3. We can take cat naps with our eyes open without even knowing it.
  4. The record for the longest period without sleep is 11 days.
  5. A giraffe just needs under two hours of sleep a day.
  6. Lack of sleep will kill you more quickly than lack of food.
  7. Within five minutes of waking up, half of your dream is forgotten.
  8. By the time we reach 75 years old, we will have spent 25 years sleeping.
  9. Koala bears sleep up to 22 hours per day.
  10. Whales and dolphins literally fall half asleep. Each side of their brain takes it in turns to sleep so that they can come up for air.
