In the office, we love talking about all things sleep. We really do!
We have pulled together our top ten facts about sleep:
- We spend about a third of their lives asleep.
- Elephants can sleep while standing (as well as lying on the ground).
- We can take cat naps with our eyes open without even knowing it.
- The record for the longest period without sleep is 11 days.
- A giraffe just needs under two hours of sleep a day.
- Lack of sleep will kill you more quickly than lack of food.
- Within five minutes of waking up, half of your dream is forgotten.
- By the time we reach 75 years old, we will have spent 25 years sleeping.
- Koala bears sleep up to 22 hours per day.
- Whales and dolphins literally fall half asleep. Each side of their brain takes it in turns to sleep so that they can come up for air.
