Getting your children to sleep at night can be a stressful experience. There are certain things you can do to help make it easier for children to fall asleep:
- A warm bath before bedtime will help them to relax
- Keeping lights dim encourages your child's body to produce the sleep hormone, melatonin
- Once they're in bed, encourage your child to read quietly or listen to some relaxing music, or read a story together
- You could also suggest your child tries a relaxing breathing exercise before bed
- Limit/avoid screen time several hours before bedtime
- Stick to a routine by putting children to bed at the same time each night
- Keep your child’s bedroom dark and quiet, between 16-20 degrees
Don’t worry if the odd night they don’t sleep well, we all have these, but if you are experiencing sleep problems on a regular basis please speak to your doctor.
