A good question which has a number of theories!
Boffins have discovered that lavender contains linalool which rapidly absorbs into the blood and is a component that will reduce stress levels thereby relaxing us enough to sleep much better by slowing heartbeat and relaxing muscles.
In other research boffins found evidence that simply by thinking that lavender aromatherapy works will reduce bedtime anxiety – and so enable us to sleep better. And in other studies it maybe we are reminded of what our bed smelt like when we were young or what nappies we wore as a baby!
Or it may even be a combination of science and suggestion. Whatever the reason, for many of us we simply couldn’t be without our bottle of lavender sleep spray!
